RD4 – Integration, Sustainability

The main goals of the RD4 Line are:

• Develop the cryogenic techniques, in synergy with magnet design; explore the 4.5 K option for Nb3Sn
• Develop novel protection systems to enhance magnet performance and related simulation tools
• Develop insulation and impregnation schemes compatible with novel concepts of protection and cooling

Possible implementation of a dry-cooled accelerator magnet, in insulation vacuum. Cooling is achieved by forced flow of He circulating inside the piping seen on the foreground, with a cold circulator and cryocooler providing the flow conditions.
